THE CINEMATIC VOICE FROM GEORGE ENESCU'S HOMELAND
Leyah - also known as Magdalena Diana Marica - is a Romanian composer, singer, and pianist, and the first artist from Southeastern Europe to pave the way for the cinematic pop genre.
Coming from a family with a strong musical tradition and trained in classical music, she began her artistic journey at an early age, guided by her father, conductor Modest Cichirdan, who was both her mentor and guiding light. She first stepped on stage at the age of 6, and at 16 she made her debut as a soloist, performing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 under her father’s baton.
Rigorously trained in the world of classical music and with solid experience as a performing pianist, after graduating from her higher music studies Leyah chose to carry this legacy forward in her own direction through a crossover - uniting her voice with the depth of classical music and the power of contemporary pop.
The result is cinematic pop - a genre she introduced in Romania and defines as “movie music with a voice”, an experience that transcends genres.
In 2024 - 2025, her groundbreaking national tour Cinestezia marked the first cinematic pop tour in Romania, captivating audiences in major concert halls with a unique audiovisual experience. Leyah’s music is emotional, inspirational, and cinematic: the soundtrack of inner worlds, dreams, and transformation.
Her most recent production, Cinestezia Symphonic, reimagines cinematic pop with a full symphonic orchestra, aiming to bring classical and symphonic music closer to the public by “democratizing” the concert experience - making it more emotionally accessible, contemporary, and relevant to a wider audience.
Throughout her career, Leyah has composed original music, including for film, directed music videos, and created a complete artistic universe where piano, voice, and emotion come together in a multisensory experience. Her music is a cinematic journey, capable of deeply moving audiences and connecting them to their own inner stories.
Her compositions Time (a powerful introspective ballad, filmed in NY), Peace is the only thing we need (composed under the influence of the accounts of the Russian-Ukrainian war and released on the anniversary of the armed events) or "Save Me" , bring to the public music and storytelling in an elegant, deep, impactful air.
Today, Leyah stands out as a complete artist, trained in the classical tradition but with a modern vision, being the first and most prominent name in Romania to develop and advance the cinematic pop style - a crossover between film music and pop that transcends genre boundaries.
As both composer and performer, she represents a new generation of multidimensional female creators.
"My father once told me: «There is no greater freedom for mankind than music». "
"My mission is to bring beauty, vulnerability, and emotional power back into music."
